Why Actors Lose Acting Careers, Pt2

Easily Discouraged
You didn't get the first part you auditioned for and it put you off acting for months. The video series you put online wasn't seen by anybody beyond your small circle of friends and you put it on hold for a while to recover. The plain truth is that anything worth doing will likely involve a vetting process. It's life's way of checking how serious you are about this endeavor. These trials are a part of the fact that there are so many people interested in acting. You need to differentiate yourself and one of the best ways is to keep in the game until you can make it work. Learn from mistakes and try again. Don't limit your thinking on how to achieve success, employ your creativity and don't judge your success by anyone else's stick.
Want The Dream, Not Reality
There is a common notion that a successful actor gets paid to act and the rest of the time is living a leisurely, care-free existence. Many actors come to acting with the desire for this lifestyle in mind. While there may be some actors who have this lifestyle, the majority of actors have many responsibilities beyond the on-camera part. Many have to rustle up their own opportunities or at least partner with their agents in job searches. Countless actors are also producers of projects and are thus involved years before shooting starts and for at least months after shooting has ended. If you want that easy-going, luxury, actor lifestyle you ought prepare yourself for a long road and lots of disappointments along the way. Get real about your desires and keep priorities in mind when making decisions. Do you want to be rich or be an actor?
Not That Committed
There are myriad reasons people get into acting. Often men notice the high ratio of women to men and figure it'd be a great way to meet chicks. Some people see pursuit of acting in school as an easy way to coast through with decent grades. Many people have a natural, instinctive grasp for acting and doing it takes little effort from them. The problem comes for these people when it's time to do something with their life. Those actors that have skated by will find the reality of acting outside of schools to be daunting. They'll whine about their lot and won't understand why things aren't breaking their way. They are just doing the easiest thing and when it starts to not be easy they do the easiest they think they can to rectify it. People don't get acting careers from complaining and sooner or later they will come to the realization that either they don't want it that bad or they badly miscalculated the vocation.
Even actors that don't have any of these problems are not guaranteed success, but these are common ways to hinder even the best efforts. Don't limit yourself as to what success is and you might more readily find some. Don't burden yourself with the wrong attitude about success and you'll be better prepared to do what it takes to reach the kind of success you truly want.
