Actor Considerations For Acting In Nude Scenes
Sometime in most actors career (women particularly) they will be confronted with a role that includes nudity. In a theatre production being naked on-stage might be a little frightening the first time but once you do it three times a week it gets old and once you put your clothes back on it is over. Theatre rehearsals are often extensive and along the way the cast becomes a family, which eases any anguish over baring your body.
Film productions often come together quickly and disband as fast, making it so you are baring yourself to virtual strangers. On screen nudity is a completely different subject and calls for a much more deliberate decision.
Director Track Record
Who the filmmaker is can be as important as what the script is like. If they already have a body of work it can give an indication of what your nude scene will be like. If this is not their first film, they will have worked with other actors in the past that you might contact to get a sense of how your nude scene might play out. If this is their first film and you are not that desperate, it might be a good one to sit out.
Script, Is Nudity Needed
This will take some creativity and confidence on your part, but carefully examine the script in its entirety and make a judgment whether this nudity is absolutely necessary. Love scenes can be sensual and exciting without much clothing off, and shower scenes do not have to show your whole body. Is being naked on camera an essential part of this story you are telling or is it the whole show? If you feel the nudity is superfluous, you should also be wary of the motives behind it. They may not be telling a story as much as taking pictures of you naked with enough story to fool people into thinking it is a movie.
Scene Partner
Especially in love or sex scenes it is crucial who you are doing this with. It does not have to be someone you are attracted to, but rather someone you respect and respects you. Will he or she be nurturing and protective of you or will they be exploitative and mean-spirited? There is nothing worse than being in a physically vulnerable state to have someone you need to pretend to love be taking jabs at you.
Environment of Shoot
Some film crews are huge, which can make it feel like you are stripper with fifty or more eyes only on you as you undress. Some filmed productions are done with small crews, which makes it so your nudity will only be viewed by five to ten people. There are some directors that will make the crew leave for nude scenes and some that could care less about how you are feeling. It is important to know the environment under which this nude scene will take place because it will affect the experience and should likewise affect your decision-making process.
No matter how sincere the motivation and fabulous the circumstances, there are some cold hard facts that will be difficult to get around when doing nude scenes.
- Will Be Uncomfortable
- Expected of You
- On Internet Forever
Having sex is fun and making out is fun, so it should follow that sex scenes and love scenes should be fun. This is rarely the case.
Once you do one nude scene, you will be on that list of nude scene people and you may get lots of pressure to do it again and again.
Your nude scene will live on when you die. People who would never watch this movie will still watch you being naked (possibly for prurient purposes).
Have you ever done a nude scene and had weird repercussions afterward?

very insightful.
Thanks for the great info
