The Photoplayer Hater backstory

My name is Ashlley Elias.

I hate auditions, love acting. I won't, don't and never will audition. So that leaves me no choice but to also be a producer, put together projects for myself to act in. If you find yourself in a similar position, I hope this blog will help.

I think more people should be actors, I just don't think they should try to do it as a career. Full-time actor is an oxymoron, usually.

Screen actors make the most of all actors and the average Screen Actors Guild (SAG) members income is $5,000. That's hobby status. Acting is not a great way to make money, but it's a great hobby that could make you some money some day.

I leave you with a quote from David Mamet that goes to the heart of my philosophy on acting.

It is not necessary to barter your talent, your self-esteem, and your youth for the chance of pleasing your inferiors. It is more frightening but it is not less productive to go your own way, to form your own theatre company, to write and stage your own plays, to make your own films. You have an enormously greater chance of eventually presenting yourself to, and eventually appealing to, an audience by striking out on your own, by making your own plays and films, than by submitting to the industrial model of the school and studio.
